You’ll discover new things and learn more about an oyster farmer, conservation specialist, and journalist along the way.
On the Outdoor Adventure Series podcast, hosted by Howard Fox and sponsored by Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism, Fox takes listeners on a journey through Gulf Shores, uncovering some of the most fascinating outdoor experiences this coastal town has to offer.
In the first podcast episode, Fox sits down with Anthony Ricciardone, Co-Owner of Admiral Shellfish Company, to discuss the local seafood industry and the impact it has on Gulf Shores. You’ll learn about the process of harvesting and cultivating shellfish, and get a behind-the-scenes look at oyster farming.
In the second episode, Fox chats with Scott Bannon, Director of the Marine Resources Division at the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Together, they explore the ecological importance of Gulf Shores, and the measures being taken to protect its delicate ecosystem. From reef zone expansion to what role Bannon’s department plays, this episode is a must-listen for anglers and anyone interested in preserving the natural beauty of Gulf Shores.
In the third episode, Fox interviews Suzanne Downing, Publications Editor for the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA). Downing shares some insider tips on some of the best outdoor activities to experience in Gulf Shores, from biking and fishing to birdwatching and hiking. She also talks about her journey to becoming a journalist and joining OWAA, trying an oyster for the first time in Alabama, and offers up some of her favorite dishes she experienced in and around Gulf Shores.
