Six OWAA contest winners judged ‘best of the best’

The President’s Choice Awards honor the best of the best work from winners in OWAA’s 2019 Excellence in Craft Contests. Past President Paul Queneau picked his favorites among first-place winners in the 2019 EIC contests to recognize with the President’s Choice Award. 

This year’s President’s Choice Award winners are:

Magazine/E-zine: Chris Madson, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, for “Zen in the Art of Wingshooting,” published in the 2018 Upland issue of Pheasants Forever. Madson’s article placed first in the outdoor fun and adventure category of the magazine/e-zine contest.

Newspaper/News Website: Steve Griffin, of Midland, Michigan, for “Forgotten corner of spirit freed by free sailboat,” published August 2, 2018, in the Midland Daily News. Griffin’s article placed first in the humor category of the newspaper/news website contest.
 
Blog: Chris Hunt, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, for “Precious Time,” published October 18, 2018, on the Trout Unlimited Voices of the River blog. Hunt’s blog post placed first in the family participation/youth outdoor education category of the blog contest.

Radio/Podcast: Monica Gokey, of Cascade, Idaho, for “Cattle Among Us,” broadcast September 17, 2018, on the Outlandish podcast. Gokey’s segment placed first in the conservation or nature category of the radio/podcast contest.

Television/Video/Webcast: Ross Purnell, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, for “ One Path: The Race to Save Mongolia’s Giant Salmonids,” broadcast November 19, 2018, on the Outdoor Channel. Purnell’s show placed first in the fishing category of the television/video/webcast contest.

Photography: Brian Grossenbacher, of Bozeman, Montana, for “Paddleboard Maze,” which was printed in the February 2018 issue of The FlyFish Journal. Grossenbacher’s photo placed first in the outdoor fun and adventure category of the photography contest.
