January Portfolio: Bud Cole

Bud Cole is a freelance outdoor/travel writer and photographer residing in Cherryville, Penn. His outdoor column, Bud’s View, is published in eight regional newspapers in eastern Pennsylvania. This metro region, the Lehigh Valley, is the third largest population area in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. His work is also carried regularly in the Northern Valley Gazette. Cole contributes to several other newspapers in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. He is a regular contributor to Pennsylvania Magazine, Ohio Valley Outdoors and the Baltimore Recreation News. Additional published work and photos have appeared in the Pennsylvania Game News, Pennsylvania Boater Angler, North American Bear Foundation Magazine and Reader’s Digest.
His first children’s book, “The Mystery of Little Bear,” will be published in 2010. Cole and his wife, Bev, are co-directors and owners of the Three B’s Mobile Nature Center, a company that presents outdoor and nature related programs to youth organizations, schools and civic groups. He is an adjunct professor teaching outdoor-related classes for youth and adults at the Northampton County Community College.
Cole’s outdoor philosophy includes a fundamental respect for the environment while establishing good conservation ethics to protect and preserve our world for future generations. His goal of introducing children to the wonders of nature, thereby building individual respect for what the natural world provides for all who wish to receive its gifts, will hopefully create a new generation of environmental caretakers. ◊
