Marathon Petroleum Company wins 2011 Wings Over Wetlands award

Ducks Unlimited and the Wildlife Habitat Council recognized Marathon Petroleum Company as the winner of the 2011 Wings Over Wetlands award. MPC was honored for its efforts to restore agricultural lands to functioning wetlands in southeast Illinois to improve habitat conditions for waterfowl.

“It is important we highlight companies that are good stewards of the land, and we encourage more corporations to do the same,” said Paul Schmidt, DU chief conservation officer.

The region MPC restored to wetlands is one of the most heavily used migration corridors for waterfowl and other birds. The restored wetlands will expand waterfowl habitat and will be beneficial for other wildlife. For more information, visit www.ducks.org.
