Sportsman Channel and Comcast partner with Illinois fishing event for fifth annual Hunt.Fish.Feed event

New Berlin, Wis. – Sportsman Channel and Comcast are teaming up to host a Hunt.Fish.Feed event in Chicago on Tuesday, June 25, serving a special salmon dinner at Cornerstone Community Outreach. Sportsman Channel TV host and Executive Chef Scott Leysath and special guest David Draper, who pens the “Wild Chef” blog at Field & Stream, will serve poached salmon and venison tacos to more than 250 guests at the shelter. Hunt.Fish.Feed., created by Sportsman Channel, is a unique outreach program that taps an underutilized food source-game meat and fish donated by sportsmen-to feed those struggling with hunger across America. Chicago’s events will utilize more than 200 lbs of fresh fish caught during the PFC Geoffrey Morris Tournament on Lake Michigan, as well as 100 lbs of venison donated by Mule Deer Foundation. The fish caught will be processed thanks to the volunteers of the local Salmon Unlimited chapter, who has been a Hunt.Fish.Feed partner for four years.
“We’re especially excited to bring our Hunt.Fish.Feed. initiative back to Chicago for the fifth time and look forward to working with our partners at Comcast and the shelter to make this a successful and impactful event,” said Gavin Harvey, CEO of Sportsman Channel. “Programs like Hunt.Fish.Feed provide unique avenues to help the needy, especially during an economic time that finds more and more people in need every day.”
Unique to this Hunt.Fish.Feed. event is the donation of fish caught during the PFC Geoffrey Morris Memorial Tournament, which benefits military families, taking place at Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, on June 21-23. Comcast and Sportsman Channel are teaming up with the tournament to take military servicemen and women who have been wounded while on duty on fishing boats prior to the tournament beginning. The fish caught by these heroes will be served at the shelter.
The Chicago event will also serve venison, a highly nutritious food source, which will be donated by local hunters from the region in cooperation with Mule Deer Foundation.
“Comcast is thrilled to participate in and partner with Sportsman Channel on this very important event,” said, David Williams, vice president of Marketing and Sales for Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region. “This event not only provides food for people in need, it’s a wonderful opportunity for veterans.” Williams noted that Comcast participates in the national “Hiring our Heroes” program and already has hired 1,000 veterans and plans to hire 1,000 more by 2015.
