President's report

For my first president’s report I would like to thank the board of directors, all of the committee volunteers and our awesome staff and executive director.
Our committees over the next 12 months will focus on several important tasks, including finding new grants, new members and attracting youths to our profession. The Marketing Committee has already been tasked with looking at new strategies to mentor youths with the goal of them becoming outdoor communicators. In order to survive as an organization we must look to our nation’s youths to fill our shoes in the future.
We must also look at all the digital opportunities on the Internet and become “digital Daniel Boones” blazing new trails through the digital frontier. No matter what your communication specialty – radio, TV, magazine, newspaper, photography or artist – the Internet offers endless opportunities. Many of these opportunities will be featured in my I-Tech column in coming months.
Your board of directors hears you. Bring back Outdoors Unlimited!
During our last board meeting in Grand Rapids your board of directors unanimously voted to print a quarterly “best of” OU excerpted from OU Online.
The conference program committee is still working on a plan to simply and greatly streamline conference planning. The new conference template strives to make it much easier to line up speakers and have conference planned much faster than in the past. As a result of this new conference template, OWAA members might receive a credit toward conference expenses if they are a conference speaker.
Our next board meeting will be at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas in January. I’m looking forward to seeing many old friends from the gun community and hope to meet new friends, too. If you have anything you would like the board of directors to consider please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of your board members.
In closing, I’d like to thank the membership for the opportunity to serve OWAA as your president and will do my best to keep OWAA moving forward, into the digital frontier.
