Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation RMEF awarded grants totaling $39,226 for projects in Michigan that help ensure the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat in the state. Seven projects received funding in Allegan, Cheboygan, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Montmorency, Osceola, Otsego, Ottawa and Presque Isles counties. www.rmef.org.
Pheasants Forever During 2008 Wisconsin Pheasants Forever’s 30 chapters and 7,300 members completed 551 wildlife habitat projects which are benefitting 3,143 acres for pheasants, deer, turkeys and other wildlife. The enterprises included food-plot projects, land acquisitions, nesting cover and wetland projects, woody cover projects and habitat maintenance. Wrangler Rugged Wear Kelly Shannon Kelly, member and president of the Florida Outdoor Writers Association, won the monthly Wrangler Rugged Wear Adventures Essay Contest in November with her account of a dangerous rescue after overturning a kayak in the murky Cape Fear River.
