New outdoors store manager says job is 'icing on the cake'

Liz Taylor to head up staff at Bass Pro Shops Outpost in Anchorage

Anchorage, Alaska (June 27, 2013)– As the newly-named general manager of Alaska’s Bass Pro Shops Outpost store opening in Anchorage later this year, Liz Taylor believes the store and the state were made for each other.
“We have one of the largest concentrations of hunters and anglers in the United States and being able to manage the store that will provide customers with the gear, knowledge and ability to go out and enjoy our great state is a treat for me-it’s the icing on the cake!” says Taylor.
Although Taylor grew up fishing, camping, boating and hiking in upstate New York, it wasn’t until she was attending New Mexico State University for Environmental Education and Business, that she discovered her true calling. “At NMSU I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by outdoor enthusiasts that brought the joy of hunting into my life,” said Taylor. “I spent my time working with the Wildlife Society and other conservation groups to grow my new-found fascination of hunting small and large game and I hunted in many states in the west.”
Describing herself as ‘passionate about people and the outdoors’ Taylor decided she had the desire to pass on her love for the outdoors to others which made her a ‘perfect fit’ for a career at Bass Pro Shops. “The ability to help others learn about our great outdoors, how to thrive in it and protect it matches well with Bass Pro Shops’ conservations efforts,” she said. “I feel I have a responsibility to educate and share my outdoor experiences with others and communicate how we are tasked with preserving and protecting our natural resources.”
Taylor brings more than 20 years of retail experience; Sam’s Club, OfficeMax, Galyan’s Outdoor, Smith and Hawken and others. “I feel truly blessed to manage such a great store like Bass Pro Shops in Alaska-both truly represent the great outdoors experience,” she said.
Recognized for their outdoor education programs, Bass Pro Shops is dedicated to providing an area where adults, kids, women and families can learn skills that will enable them to maximize their outdoor adventures. “Whether they are just beginning in the outdoors or want to learn some new and different skills, they can come to our store and attend free workshops such as beginning fishing, setting up a campsite, Dutch oven cooking, nature photography, fly fishing, hunter education and safety classes and many more,” said Taylor.
Taylor and her husband Rob (retired Army) have three children. “We are avid outdoors folk,” she laughed. “My family and I fish, camp, hike, snow shoe, four-wheel, rock climb and hunt. It’s important to pass on the concept of the outdoors to your children and their generation,” she added.
Honored many times for their conservation efforts, Bass Pro Shops will partner with local and regional conservation groups helping ensure there is an outdoors for future generations to enjoy. In fact, the store, which opens later this year, gets underway with a special Evening for Conservation event that is free and open to the public. More details about these events will be available in the upcoming months.
Bass Pro Shops visitors can shop a huge selection of quality outdoor gear, clothing and accessories from top industry names and at value prices. The store, located at 1360 Glenn Square, will also feature the world-famous Tracker® and Nitro® boats.
Typical with Bass Pro Shops store design, the Anchorage store will draw upon the heritage of the area in its visual design and presentation. Conservation and educational themes, both Bass Pro Shops hallmarks, will also be evident throughout the store.
Taylor looks forward to leading a team of 200-plus associates from the Anchorage area that possess a passion for the outdoors so customers will be assured of getting local skilled, knowledgeable assistance with product selections and questions.
“Focusing on education and our rich traditions in Alaska will allow Bass Pro Shops to bring the outdoor experience to everyone and is what separates us from our competition,” stated Taylor. “Alaskan’s live their lives in the outdoors. Protecting those rights and ensuring we pass on to our youth the ability to enjoy what Alaska has to offer is a big priority for our team.”
