Many Americans put away their sunglasses and UV eye protection during winter months but there is still a need to protect eyes and skin to avoid overexposure to harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
“No matter where you are traveling this winter, the risk of damage to eyes from unprotected UV exposure is still present,” said Ed Greene, CEO of The Vision Council. “The Vision Council wants people to be aware of the potential for UV damage from participating in outdoor winter sports and other winter getaways.”
Fresh snow reflects 80 percent of UV radiation and UV rays can bounce back off of frozen water, doubling exposure.
