The Kentucky Outdoor Press Association presented Sam Piatt with the Cutting Edge Award. The award, sponsored by KOPA and Buck Knives, is given to outstanding writers who have made a continued contribution to outdoor communication. Only three of these awards have been given in the past 10 years. Piatt, of South Shore, Ky., a veteran of outdoor pages in magazines and daily newspapers, was cited for excellence in journalism extending for half a century. Piatt is a full-time freelance writer and photographer with outdoor columns appearing weekly in the Daily Independent and the Portsmouth Daily Times of Portsmouth, Ky.
