Visit Johnson City Tennessee staff is gearing up to host the inaugural OWAA Field Fest this summer, July 7-11, 2024 at the Carnegie Hotel in Johnson City, Tennessee.

OWAA’s Field Fest is a “mash-up” of a mini-conference, marketplace for outdoor communicators and various small group press trips. (It’s also an opportunity for OWAA to work with smaller, more rural destinations.) There will be a marketplace to meet exhibitors and tourism boards, an editor’s panel, professional development sessions, networking and various outdoor tours around Johnson City.

If you’re an outdoor communicator attending the upcoming Field Fest, you’ll have a plethora of half-day tour options to choose from — each offering unique outdoor experiences in the scenic landscapes of Northeast Tennessee.

Outdoor Tour Options

Tour options include exploring the stunning vistas of Roan Mountain State Park in Carter County, where participants can visit Carver’s Gap and marvel at the world’s largest natural stand of Catawba Rhododendron. You could also choose to engage in an adventure at Tannery Knob’s Mountain Bike Park. Kingsport boasts guided hikes and a “wolf experience” at Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium. If you’re interested in a water adventure, Unicoi County offers whitewater rafting on the Nolichucky River. With diverse tour options, you’re sure to find the perfect excursion to complement their Field Fest experience. See a full list of included outdoor tour offerings here.
