EPA to accept public comments on Bristol Bay watershed assessment through July 23

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced that the public comment period on its Bristol Bay watershed assessment will end July 23. There are no plans to further extend the deadline.
The assessment, which was conducted over the last year and released for public review in May, determined that large-scale hard-rock mining in southwest Alaska’s Bristol Bay drainage would jeopardize the region’s significant fisheries and ecological wellbeing.
The public is encouraged to offer input through July 23. To submit a comment or view the report, visit http://yosemite.epa.gov/R10/ECOCOMM.NSF/bristol+bay/bristolbay.
