Trout Unlimited warns Upper Colorado River still at risk

Trout Unlimited believes that a new federal report addressing the environmental impacts of the Windy Gap water diversion project in Colorado falls short of recommending what’s needed to protect the Upper Colorado River. While the new document is an improvement over previous versions, Drew Peternell, executive director of TU’s Colorado Water Project, said it falls short of what is needed and critical problems continue to be ignored. One such concern not being addressed is a study released by the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife showing that entire populations of native fish and the insects they feed on have all but disappeared from the Colorado River below the Windy Gap Reservoir.
