Members win SEOPA awards

OWAA members had a strong showing at Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) Excellence in Craft awards in Punta Gorda, Fla.
Alex Zidock of Greentown, Pa., won a second place special communications award.
Howard Communications won first place in the Industry Public Relations Program.
Mike Walker took home first place and an honorable mention in the Audio Program category.
Jill Easton won an honorable mention in the Electronic Publication category.
Mike Marsh won two third place awards: a Weekly Newspaper Story EIC award and a Magazine Short Story EIC award.
Second place for Photography went to Tim Flanigan.
And finally, Jeff Williams won an honorable mention in the Magazine Story category.

NANPA photo blind program

The North American Nature Photography Association’s photo blind program is being reworked, opening up grant money for the construction, repair and building of new photography blinds.
Non-profit organizations such as conservation or birding associations, land trusts, camera clubs, and Friends of the Refuge groups can apply for individual grants up to $1,500.  Interested photographers interested in applying must work through one of these 501(c)(3) programs.
Grant applicants will work with the managing organization or owner of the refuge to get permission and to plan for blind access and availability to photographers. Application forms and a list of current blind locations are available at www.nanpafoundation.org/blinds.php.

Rio Products announces the launch of two new series of Skagit Shooting Heads for the discerning spey caster. The Skagit Flights features a heavy back end that loads rods deeply and easily and a subtle taper that ensures flows smoothly to the tip, generating great loops and long flight times and distances. NRA Great American Hunting and Outdoor Show

The National Rifle Association announces the launch of the “NRA Great American Hunting and Outdoor Show,” to be held January 29-31, 2010, in Westminster, Md.
Many of the East Coast’s top hunting, outdoor and shooting sport retailers have already signed on as exhibitors and  nationally-known hunting and outdoor personalities will be speaking at seminars.
General admission to the show is $10, $8 for NRA members, and free for children age 11 years old and younger. Visitors interested in joining the NRA or renewing their membership will receive a free weekend pass to the show.
