Immediate supervisor: Chairman of the Board of Directors
 
Status:  Regular, Full-time, Exempt (Executive Category) serving as an at-will employee of the Board of Directors
 
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
 
Summary of Position: The executive director will assist the Board of Directors in maintaining and enhancing WyoFile’s brand as the go-to source for in-depth news about Wyoming’s critical issues. The Executive Director willdrive income development, ensure and maintain efficient operations, oversee the fiscal health of the organization, and will supervise non-editorial employees.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
A. Board Relations
Communicate regularly with the Chairman to implement Board decisions, coordinate the work of Board committees, assist in developing goals and long-range planning, and to review progress towards those goals. Prepare Board agenda in consultation with Chair, and participate in Board meetings in ex-officio capacity. Keep Board informed of activities, challenges, and opportunities between Board meetings.
 
B. Income Development
Develop and maintain relationships with large donors through a donor plan, to include regular communications with donors, personal contact with existing and potential donors, and matching gifts. Oversee relationships with foundation funders, with the assistance of staff and board, to ensure relationships with new and existing foundations are developed and maintained. Ensure that staff plans and executes donor outreach, to include fund drives, year-end giving campaigns, and regular communications.
 
C. Fiscal Management
Oversee and implement best-practice fiscal policies and procedures with the assistance of staff members and Board direction. Develop and present to the Board the annual operating budget; monitor and report on budget status to the Board. With staff assistance, ensure that annual filings, such as the 990 and non-profit status, are properly executed, reviewed, and submitted.
 
D. Personnel Planning and Oversight
Hire, evaluate, and manage all non-editorial staff. Collaborate with editor-in-chief to ensure that editorial staffing needs are met. Work with the Board to develop and implement long-term staffing goals.
 
Qualifications:
·       Bachelors degree; Master’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred
·       Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
·       Ability to articulate organizational vision and to bring multiple parties together around that vision
 
·       Ability to develop and maintain relationships with donors; specifically large donors and foundations
·       Administrative and operational skills, preferably in the field of journalism
·       Ability to read and interpret financial statements, and to use word processing, e-mail, and internet
·       Willingness to travel extensively throughout Wyoming
·       Self-starting style, accustomed to working without supervision, and capable of supervising and motivating others
