Waterfowl and Retriever is a biannual magazine published under Grand View Media Group. They feature cutting-edge information for the dedicated hunter and their dogs. Queries should describe the story’s uniqueness, the time of year in which it should run, a proposed word length, whether there would be photo support and who would be interviewed (if anyone) for the article. Special sidebars, product-related mentions, graphs, charts and illustrations should also be indicated. Waterfowl and Retriever does not expect exclusive queries, and works approximately six months ahead in regard to the actual publishing schedule. Features are 1,200 to 1,500 words; columns and departments are generally 600 to 1,000 words. A complete author-supplied photo package of 15 to 20 slides or digital photographs is expected with features, and 5 to 10 slides or digital photographs for columns and departments. Print photography is not advisable. Digital images must be 300 dpi at a minimum of four square inches. Grand View Media Group is currently not accepting unaccompanied photo submissions, unless at the request of individual editors. They pay within 45 to 60 business days upon acceptance and buy first North American serial rights, unless otherwise discussed with the editor. If the publication reruns an article that is identical or similar to work the writer has done in the past, the writer will be paid a rerun fee to be determined by the editor, at no more than half the original contract price.
