The Jackson Hole News&Guide, the National Newspaper Association’s and Wyoming Press Association’s General Excellence award winner over the years as best weekly newspaper in its circulation class, seeks its next editor. This is an immediate opening. The last time this opportunity came up was more than 30 years ago…so now, we’re looking for the next excellent community news editor to serve into the future.
Responsibilities: Planning, editing and producing the weekly, Jackson Hole News&Guide leading to print and digital subscription growth. Providing edited, local news stories through the managing editor to its sister publication, the Jackson Hole Daily. Hiring, managing and evaluating the staff regularly. Coaching and inspiring the newsroom to excellence. Overseeing special sections. Providing Opinion page, editorial leadership. Managing to meet production deadlines. Using social media and the digital platforms to serve and grow news readers. Honoring and sustaining the conservation ethic of Jackson Hole. Participating in senior leadership in a team-inspired workplace. Maintaining the highest standards of photography and abiding by NPPA ethics. Advocating for and maintaining ethical standards of journalism according to SPJ ethics.
Qualifications: Editor for five-plus years at a small-to-mid market-sized daily or weekly. Or, three to five-plus years as managing editor or deputy editor at a large market daily or weekly. Journalism degree. Top-notch writing and verbal skills. A demonstrated, measured approach to editing and reporting on complex community issues using mature news judgment and presentation. A demonstrated understanding of how journalism contributes to the publishing business model. Experience in digital content management and social media integration preferred.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. Full benefits package including medical, paid vacation, paid personal days and profit sharing. No state income tax.
