The Dickinson Press has an immediate opening for a Regional Reporter to cover one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation.
The Press is a six-day morning newspaper (no Monday edition) with a 7,200 print circulation and a growing Web base that serves the country’s third fastest-growing micropolitan area and the city recently named the No. 1 small town in America. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter able to produce a strong balance of straightforward reporting with features and enterprise stories, develop a social media base and help institute any other new ideas he or she may have. The reporter’s beats will include western North Dakota’s agriculture and energy industries (with special emphasis on the politics of both), outdoors and conservation, as well as reporting on the smaller towns in our coverage area, all of which generate an abundance of news in the midst of the Bakken oil boom.  Page design experience is not required but is helpful as the reporter will be asked to design a minimum of one page per week, often featuring their own articles. Our reporters also take their own photographs with DSLR cameras and lenses provided by the newspaper, and have the option to shoot video for their stories with their own cameras or those provided by the newspaper. The Dickinson Press won the North Dakota Newspaper Association’s 2012 General Excellence and 2012 and 2013 Sweepstakes awards in its circulation category.
The Dickinson Press is part of family owned Forum Communications and offers great work environment with plenty room for advancement. The city of Dickinson located in the North Dakota Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt National Park offers great quality of life and excellent recreational opportunities.
