This membership-based cooperative only accepts story proposals online at Priority is placed on well-written, well-researched, investigative pieces that critically examine industry trends, technologies, history, and controversial topics. Specifically, the greatest emphasis will be put on articles that promote their mission to promote self-sufficient, multi-day backcountry travel in a lightweight style. Royalties are paid to book authors, and honoraria to other content providers in the amounts of $25 to $100 for content in the form of cash or gift certificates to the Gear Shop. Cash contracts for freelancers are considered on a case-by-case basis. The magazine typically purchases all rights, though exceptions are considered for freelancers who need more latitude in their work.
