This key associate press secretary position helps guide regional media strategy across the Midwest for the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign. It’s an ambitious effort which received a $50 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies, and aims to retire a third of the nation’s coal-burning power plants and replace them with wind, solar, and other clean energy alternatives over the next decade.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, resourceful, creative, has a good understanding of grassroots organizing, and is eager to join a fast-paced team of communications professionals. In addition to shaping messaging, strategy and tactics, this person will maintain key media relationships, pitch and promote stories for the campaign, create paid-media plans, and provide on-the-record comments for news outlets. Candidates should have 3+ years of media and communications experience, and a passion for environmental and social change.
