JOB: Communications coordinator

The Mississippi Forestry Association seeks a communications coordinator.
The MFA is a nonprofit association that serves more than 3,000 forest landowners, professional foresters, wood suppliers and timber harvesting contractors, forest industry companies, vendors and suppliers, and others interested in Mississippi’s forestry community. In addition, MFA serves as a statewide sponsor for a network of 65 county forestry association affiliates in seventy counties representing more than 10,000 local members.
Management structure: The communications coordinator reports to the executive vice president, who is the chief staff officer of the association. All MFA policies and procedures are established by MFA’s executive committee and board of directors, which are elected by the membership.
Professional skills and abilities required: The applicant should be a self motivated and highly-organized professional with work experience in media relations, publication development and management, advertising, development and analysis of public opinion research, and coalition-building. Applicant must have ability to research and assess opportunities to expand communications and public outreach. Experience with fundraising and grant administration is a plus. Written and oral communication skills are essential.
General responsibilities: Under the direction of the executive vice president, the communications coordinator is responsible for managing MFA’s communications program, creating and editing publications, managing media relations, developing and maintaining MFA’s website and social media outlets, serving as MFA staff liaison to the Communications and Sustainable Forestry Initiative State Implementation, and planning and coordinating multiple educational/outreach projects. Coordinator will also be responsible for performing clerical duties necessary to the position or otherwise desired by MFA, such as answering telephone as necessary, greeting visitors to MFA office and other duties as assigned.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum education and experience: Minimum of 1 degree or 5 years experience in communications, media relations, public relations, marketing, journalism, forestry, natural resources or related fields.
Preferred education and experience: A degree in the previously mentioned areas and experience in natural resources, forestry, or related field. Master’s degree.
Starting date: Position available. As soon as possible after an offer of employment.
