JOB: Public information officer II

Arizona Game and Fish Department is accepting job applications for Public information officer II. The salary grade is 20 ($36,814-$62,692). It is a permanent position based in Phoenix, Ariz. The application deadline is  5 p.m. (Arizona time) on Nov. 23, 2011.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is looking for a communications professional who wants to help promote and ensure the future of wildlife and outdoor recreation in the state. The position calls for a professional who can perform a variety of writing, public information and media relations tasks and can effectively assess a need, create a comprehensive communications plan to address the need, and implement the plan. The position works with other agency professionals to develop, implement and measure the effectiveness of internal and external public relations and marketing campaigns. The position is responsible for doing work of average difficulty in communications and public information activities, including preparing news releases and media advisories; creating articles and publications for both printed and electronic communications to the public; handling various aspects of media relations; engaging in marketing activities; writing for social media; and performing related work as required. The position creates and monitors an annual work plan and budget, develops budgets, and monitors expenditures for communications projects. The position performs other duties as assigned and requires some after-hours work and overnight in-state travel.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: The preferred candidate will have the ability to perform a wide variety of communications and marketing tasks in a fast-paced environment. The preferred candidate will have experience in journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing and mass communications; the ability to develop and deliver public information programs; and excellent written and oral communication skills. The preferred candidate will have either a minimum of two years of experience in professional public information work, news or feature writing, broadcast news, public relations, advertising or related fields and a demonstrated interest in wildlife management activities; or two years of professional wildlife management experience with experience and interest in journalism, marketing, information and outreach activities. The preferred candidate will have some knowledge and experience with Web-based communications and social media. Experience with digital photography and video would be a plus. The ideal preferred candidate will meet the above criteria and have good knowledge of the principles and practices of hunting, shooting sports and wildlife management.
