Job Requirements Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; graduate degree in public affairs, communications or journalism a plus
• 3-5 years of experience in conservation/advocacy work, communications, political campaigns or other similar positions
• Familiarity and understanding of public lands, waters and wildlife issues in the rural landscapes of the West, preferably the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong strategic thinking skills and understanding of the changing political environment
• Ability to translate complex issues into clear, concise and compelling stories
• Capable of managing social media, digital technologies and other online outlets
• Understanding of emerging communications trends and innovations
• Ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic communications plans
• A commitment to teamwork and building a strong internal culture of trust and accountability
• Excellent public speaking and outreach skills
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to develop and manage productive relationships with media contacts, GYC supporters and key decision makers
• Ability to work well under pressure with rapidly changing and emerging issues
• Computer proficiency in PC-based system
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel, primarily in region
• An understanding and commitment to the mission and goals of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition
About Our Company Communications Coordinator
The Greater Yellowstone Coalition, a non-profit conservation organization based in Bozeman, MT, seeks an experienced and skilled Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating external communications for the Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s (GYC) campaigns and projects. The position works closely with both Conservation and Development staff to ensure effective and efficient internal coordination is achieved in all aspects of message development and delivery. Working in a team setting, the Communications Coordinator will be the lead in developing content for reoccurring communications such as E-news, membership alerts and the Annual Report. To support GYC’s campaigns and projects, this position will work closely with program-based teams to create and implement strategic communication plans that help advance the organization’s goals for protecting the region’s lands, waters and wildlife. Managing GYC’s social media presence, website and other online venues is an important part of this position. When necessary, the Communications Coordinator also serves as a spokesperson for the organization and is the key point of contact for local, regional and national media. S/he serves on an internal leadership team, in coordination with the Director of Conservation and all other Coordinators in managing and responding to region-wide conservation issues. The Communications Coordinator also works closely with the Development Department to create effective messages that meet outreach and fundraising goals.
