Purpose of Position:
This position’s primary objective is to support fish and wildlife conservation programs in southeastern New Mexico while also communicating the value of those efforts to the general public. The area Wildlife Biologist/Outreach Specialist participates in scientific research, wildlife captures, fish and wildlife surveys, habitat projects and other efforts. The biologist conveys the importance of those activities to the public as a hunter education and archery instructor, at outdoor events and by giving presentations to community groups and school classrooms. Southeastern New Mexico has a strong demographic of conservation-minded hunters, anglers and others who support the agency and contribute greatly to the regional economy. Department wildlife biologists regularly represent the department at events such as fishing clinics, outdoor shows and the Southeastern New Mexico State Fair every October in Roswell.
 
This position is a Pay Band 65.

Classification Description

Zoologist & Wildlife Biologist Advanced

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biology, fisheries science/management, wildlife science/management, animal science, forestry, ecology or similar related natural resource degree and two (2) years directly related work experience.

Only For Assignment in Positions at the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department:
Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

 

Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License.  Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Work will be performed primarily in an office setting, but on occasion will be performed in the outdoors during all types of weather conditions. Weekend and varied hours occasionally will be required for this position. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and operate computers and photography equipment.Conditions of Employment:
