Outdoor Writers Association of America now offers student membership to both college and high school students, following a vote by its membership in the association’s recent elections. This allows a larger range of up-and-coming communicators to join OWAA within the student membership category, an opportunity previously available only to higher-education students.
Student membership in OWAA is available for only $10 per year. Joining OWAA provides you full access to OWAA’s resources for connecting with fellow communicators, improving your professional skills and finding opportunities to sell your work. In addition, OWAA student members are eligible to receive full scholarships to attend OWAA’s annual conferences, covering registration expenses and all meals throughout the 3-day event.
“As part of our mission to be mentors for the next generation of professional outdoor communicators, we felt it was only natural to extend our range of services to high school students as well,” said Jessica Pollett, OWAA membership and conference services coordinator. “This is already a group we support through other programs such as our Norm Strung Youth Writing Awards, but we wanted to expand benefits available to these promising young communicators.”
All OWAA members receive the bimonthly trade magazine Outdoors Unlimited, as well as press credentials, access to membership lists and media contacts for outdoor groups, agencies and businesses, plus access to media-only discounts.
