FAQs

What airport do I fly into?
The nearest airport is Duluth International Airport (DLH). Duluth Airport offers direct service from Minneapolis and Chicago via Delta and United airlines. Minneapolis – St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is located 2.5 hours from Duluth and Skyline Shuttle service provides ground transportation between Minneapolis and Duluth.

Does the hotel have shuttle service from the airport?
There is a complimentary hotel shuttle service from the Duluth airport. The host hotel is just over 6 miles from the airport. For attendees flying into Minneapolis, Skyline Shuttle provides ground transportation from MSP to Duluth hotels.

What car rental companies are available at the Duluth International Airport?
Car rental facilities are located in the baggage claim area.

Do I have to pay for my spouse or family to come to the conference?
You do not have to register your spouse or family for conference, but if they are not registered, they will not be able to attend any conference meals, sessions or off-site activities, including Breakout Day and Water Demos. If they would like to attend any of these activities, they can register for the whole conference or individual days of conference. All conference meals are included in the cost of registration. We will also be working with Visit Duluth to organize activities for spouses and families with more details to come as we get closer. What should I wear?
Wear comfortable shoes and casual clothes to the welcome dinner, EIC awards party, workshops and outdoor activities (breakout day). The Honorary Awards dinner on Monday night is more formal, a tie and sports jacket are recommended. While all conference sessions will be inside, Breakout Day will be outside, so please pack rain gear should it be necessary and be prepared for the heat.

Are there any airline discounts?
We plan to arranged airline discounts with both Delta Airlines and United Airlines. Codes will be available on our Travel & Lodging page.

Are there spouse activities?
Yes, spousal activities will be arranged. Duluth offers a wide range of activities within a close distance, including shopping, historical sites, outdoor recreation, museums and more. For more information on activities available in the area, visit http://www.visitduluth.com/things-to-do/. Coordinated conference excursions will be posted as available on the spouse, partner, family and guest agenda.

Can I bring my children?
Yes, families and children are welcome at conference, though children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent at all conference functions.

GENERAL INFO

Board Meetings
OWAA board of directors’ meetings are scheduled for Friday, June 23, at 9 a.m., and Monday, June 26, at 7 a.m. Members may attend as silent observers.

General Attendance Policy
Conference attendance is restricted to registered individual members and supporting groups, spouses and guests. Conference attendees wearing green ribbons on their badges are first-timers; please make them feel welcome. Children may attend workshops if supervised by parents, but they may not attend Breakout Day or hospitality suites.

Hospitality Suites
Supporter hospitality suites will be open from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Radisson Hotel Duluth-Harborview. You will receive a detailed schedule at registration.

Hotel Parking
Complimentary parking is available for OWAA hotel guests at the Radisson Hotel Duluth-Harborview. Shuttle service between the host hotel, the convention center and all off-site conference activities will be available. Free parking is not available at the convention center. Daily parking rates will apply.

Miscellany
Bring plenty of business cards; you’ll need them. Personal messages, conference information, etc. will be displayed on a white board near the registration area. Some Supporters conduct prize drawings; entrants must abide by drawing rules. Failure to do so may be a violation of the OWAA Code of Ethics.

Roommates
OWAA headquarters is keeping a list of OWAA members interested in sharing a room for the Duluth conference. To be added to this list, contact headquarters at 406-728-7434, or email jseitz[at]owaa.org.

Scavenger Hunt Photo Contest
Pick up rules and subject matter at the OWAA registration desk. Using your own digital camera, take one photo of each of the five pre-selected assignments, have editors critique your entries (anonymously), and maybe win a prize donated by our supporters. Shots are due by Sunday evening. Entries are critiqued at a screening during the conference. Screening and critique scheduled for Monday, June 26.

Special Rooms Assigned

  • EIC Winner Showroom. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Press Area. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Silent Auction Room. Open Sunday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Weather
Average daytime highs in Duluth in June range into the low 70s with overnight lows around 50 degrees.
